Plant fire affects town water supply

were permitted to resume normal water usage Wednesday following a fire at a local meatpacking plant officials say. The blaze that broke out Sunday night at the Patrick Cudahy plant prompted officials to temporarily order limits on water usage for the towns the Wisconsin State Journal reported Wednesday. The newspaper says both Milwaukee and St. Francis pumped water to Cudahy to bolster the city’s water supply so firefighters could battle the plant blaze. The fire was contained but still smoldering Wednesday the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reported. Fire officials called in a hazardous materials team after detecting a slight amount of ammonia which Cudahy Fire Chief Dan Mayer said “is residual ammonia in the piping system.

The BMC first introduced a cut of 10 percent on June 8 but raised it to 20 percent on June 20 after expected monsoon rains failed to fall. He said the firm would continue harvesting rainwater at construction sites to help mitigate the supply cuts.
