The French water and environmental services company isseeking to sell the stake which could be worth 500 millionpounds ($811 million) or more as part of its 3 billion euro($4. 19 billion) asset disposal plan for 2009-2011. The sale covers Veolia’s three water supply companies inSouth East England and some non-regulated water businesses butnot its wastewater operations. Veolia supplies more than 3. 5million customers in Britain. Interest has come from as many as two dozen parties theperson said including British and continental Europeaninfrastructure funds and Middle Eastern sovereign wealth funds(SWFs). Veolia was not immediately available to comment.
Cudahy fire battle stressing water supply

A 12-inch pipe has been opened to siphon water from the city of Milwaukee. McCue said firefighters had poured 8. 5 million gallons of water on the fire since last night which is quickly draining the supply from the Cudahy municipal water works. Shifting winds and debris fueled numerous flare-ups throughout the day and extended the evacuation of businesses and residents within a one-mile radius indefinitely Milwaukee County Supervisor Patricia Jursik who represents the area said some of the black smoke pouring out of the blaze this afternoon is due to portions of the roof falling in and burning.
