Feds: Atlanta can count on water from Lake Lanier

Stockdale is that the region can count on Lanier. Stockdale said when Congress authorized the construction of Lanier in 1947 it expected the lake “would provide an incidental water supply benefit to the Atlanta region. ”Metro Atlanta needs about 11 to 12 percent of the water in Lanier’s conservation pool which is the first 36 feet of water when the lake is full Stockdale said. Setting aside that amount would have only “minor effects” on the project’s primary purposes: to produce hydropower control floods and float barges downstream. Clifton Park water warning lingers

There is no evidence the town’s water supply was contaminated by the rupture at Moe Road and Sugarbush Drive said Water Authority Administrator Donald Austin but state Health Department regulations require the authority to have two full days of clean bacteria tests before lifting the warning. Austin said the 17-foot-long crack in the 12-inch diameter main was reported just before 6:30 a. and affected almost every authority customer more than 12000 homes and businesses across town. Not affected and not subject to the boil water advisory are customers of the Rexford and Sambrook Edge water districts which get their water from elsewhere Austin said.

" But the findings of this 10-month study by a citizens committee are fairly straightforward according to the committee chairman James T. Barry: "We’re in pretty good shape. " That’s the surprising good news from the committee which was charged last February by the Tucson City Council and the Pima County Board of Supervisors with making a comprehensive water study.
