DEP received complaints from residents after two customers were hospitalized with intestinal disorders. The agency responded immediately by taking lab samples and testing for the bacteria. The Pennsylvania Department of Health has been unable to confirm that the individuals had been hospitalized for water-related illnesses. Local boards hope to hash out water plans
Charlottesville Daily Progress, VA
“I’m not certain we have a complete understanding of exactly what the city was asking for, and I think we need to get that on the table,” Rooker said. Costs in questionThe resolution calls for a panel of at least three engineers to conduct reviews to, among other things, examine water demand projections, explore structural changes that could increase water conservation and review the design of the Ragged Mountain Dam to build it at the lowest possible cost. Some county officials expressed concern that the studies could further slow the progress of the water supply plan — which has already been halted to examine a new cost estimate for replacing the dam at Ragged Mountain, which is more than twice the cost of the initial $37 million estimate. And county officials feared that the additional studies might cost upwards of $1 million. “I’m pretty sure all of the board members agree with this: we weren’t interested in anything that was going to be an artificial roadblock,” Albemarle Supervisor Sally H. City officials say that the additional studies wouldn’t cause a significant delay, nor would they cost $750,000 to more than $1 million, a figure Rivanna Water & Sewer Authority Executive Director Thomas L.

One-third of China’s Yellow River polluted
The Associated Press
The Yellow River, the second-longest in China, has seen its water quality deteriorate rapidly in the last few years, as discharge from factories increases and water levels drop because of diversion for booming cities. The river supplies a region chronically short of water but rich in industry. The Yellow River Conservancy Committee said 33. 8 percent of the river’s water sampled registered worse than level 5, meaning it’s unfit for drinking, aquaculture, industrial use and even agriculture, according to criteria used by the United Nations Environmental Program.

SIONIX Announces Positive Title-22 Drinking Water Analysis of Its …

These results were independently overseen and verified by Weck Laboratories, an environmental testing laboratory accredited by the State of California under its Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program. Title-22 establishes the standard that drinking water must meet in the State of California. The Serrano Water District agreed to the implementation and testing of the SIONIX Elixir 225 water treatment system at the Villa Park Dam in an effort to support the exploration of an affordable solution for reducing the high levels of iron and manganese in its water stream. All the results from the study were satisfactory with the exception of total dissolved solids (TDS) and the organic coliform, Houtz said. These unusually high data readings were due to the unexpected draining of the Villa Park Dam to facilitate maintenance and repair of the dam’s gate system.

Pig farmer battles Village Hall
Chicago Tribune, United States
Island Lake officials didn’t appreciate Wargaski’s humor. They contend the pigs—or more precisely, their waste—could pose a danger to the village’s water supply. “What he’s doing is threatening to contaminate the water, and that doesn’t fit too well with our plans,” Island Lake Mayor Tom Hyde said.

DEP starts refilling major water tunnel in Wawarsing
Times Herald-Record, NY
The 45-mile stretch of plumbing, which supplies water from three upstate reservoirs to New York City, has been closed for repairs since October 25. When it’s open, the tunnel leaks as much as 36 million gallons of water along its route every day. The tunnel began refilling and increasing in pressure on Monday and will be back in service by Wednesday, according to an e-mail from DEP Regional Manager Ira Stern to residents living along the pipe’s route. The last time the tunnel was temporarily closed for repairs, then reopened, some Wawarsing residents’ homes flooded.
