ADM in bid to upgrade water supply systems
Dispatch Online, South Africa
Already R29 million was being u sed to upgrade the Laing water treatment works in King William’s Town and Nahoon water treatment works, which supply water to Buffalo City (BCM). Amatola Water Planning and Development officer Craig Thompson said they intended to increase capacity to meet anticipated water demand for future residential and industrial developments in the BCM area. According to Thompson, BCM and Amathole District Municipality (ADM) had seen several industrial and residential developments in the past two years, particularly the R500m Mdantsane City shopping centre. The new mall in King William’s Town would “no doubt” put more pressure on water resources and ADM would have to lay additional pipelines and upgrade existing ones. Amatola Water project manager Ronney Mtishana said the Nahoon water treatment works, which supplies water to about 250000 residents and surrounding farms, also needed additional pipelines.
Water warning lifted for Wash. county
Seattle Post Intelligencer
– A water warning issued this weekend in Snohomish County was lifted ahead of schedule Sunday morning. Officials say normal water service was restored to everyone, and those who were under advisory to boil water for cooking and hygiene no longer need to do so. The warning was in effect because the main drinking water supply for about 80 percent of the county was shut off from about 10 p.

But having more water than you need is infinitely preferable to the other option. insertBanner(”inStory250×250″);
“I think it has been really good planning to have the water resources available to Coweta County that we have,” said Coweta County Administrator Theron Gay. Coweta County currently gets water from three sources: Newnan Utilities, Griffin and the county’s B. Brown Water Treatment Plant. In the past, the county has purchased water from the city of Atlanta. But that contract has no minimum, and Coweta hasn’t taken any water from Atlanta since December 2007, said Ellis Cadenhead, general manager of the Coweta County Water and Sewerage Authority.
4 divers die while cleaning Mexico water duct
The Associated Press
The Security Agency of Mexico State, which border Mexico City, said the men were experienced divers maintaining a huge underground line just west of the capital. Police divers recovered the bodies and state prosecutors said they were investigating the cause of the accident. Flow through the aqueduct had been stopped prior to maintenance, but the tunnel was still full of water. The agency said the men were employed by a private company contracted by the National Water Commission. They entered the aqueduct late Friday to clean and inspect it but failed to return to an access well. Mexico City relies on huge tunnels to pump clean water in and sewage out of its closed mountain valley. The size, depth and constant use of the aqueducts pose maintenance problems, sometimes requiring the use of boats or teams of divers.
Tavares: New water is vital to isle growth

But she also says the county needs to take advantage of every possible approach including tapping stream waters, building new reservoirs and storage tanks, encouraging conservation, reclaiming wastewater, desalination – and even encouraging homeowners and farmers to save rainwater. Tavares and Director of Water Supply Jeff Eng laid out their ideas about how to continue to provide water for county growth in an interview Wednesday. Little new source will be developed in the near future, but conservation has been the savior this year, Eng said. Voluntary cooperation has driven consumption in Central and South Maui down by 1. 7 million gallons a day. The Department of Water Supply is waiting for winter rains to ease summer shortages exacerbated by an unusually long and deep drought.
More restrictions on Delta water pumping adopted

Meanwhile, a representative of one of the San Joaquin Valley’s largest farm districts said water users are being unfairly blamed while other stresses on Delta fish, including industrial pollution, sewer plants and smaller diverters of water are being ignored. “Every corner we turn, we see a disaster,” said Jason Peltier, Westlands’ assistant general manager. “Even if we have a good year (of winter storms) we can’t count on a good water supply. ” Mike Taugher covers natural resources. Water pipe break severely damages apartments

Close to 600 units were without water, but the most damage was to the apartment in the path of the gushing water main break. Kili Drive remains closed because of a huge sinkhole that has formed. Board of Water Supply officials say it's still too early to tell what caused the 34-year-old pipe to burst. It kept some residents of the Makaha Valley Towers busy Friday, trying to cope without water. From the 19th floor of Don Frick's apartment, you can see the extensive damage done to these Makaha residences. “I went to the window and saw this wall of water coming up from down below on the other side of Kili Drive going over the trees into the plantations and it was huge,” he said. Frick was typing an e-mail to a friend when he heard a loud, crackling sound.
