– 61% said would pay a few dollars more on their monthly water bill for high quality desalinated water that is drought-proof and reliable. “Orange County residents overwhelmingly support innovative solutionsto improve water reliability,” said Lucy Dunn, President of the OrangeCounty Business Council. “The state has already approved one seawaterdesalination plant for San Diego County; now Orange County must alsoensure a local, drought-proof water supply for our residents andbusinesses. We urge state and local officials to move quickly andapprove the proposed Desalination Facility in Huntington Beach,” shesaid. “Typically, water supply is not the first issue people think aboutwhen they wake up in the morning, but that’s starting to change. “Our members supportseawater desalination because it has proven to be an environmentallyresponsible way to ensure the economy is strong and good-paying jobsare created,” he said.

In all cases, the state and local sales tax exemption is only good for products priced at $1,500 or less. This is the state’s first sales tax holiday for water-efficient products. It’s an environmentally friendly sweetener added earlier this year to state legislation that’s designed to fast-track new water supply reservoirs. In addition to toilets, WaterSense showerheads and bathroom faucets also qualify for the tax exemption. Products that carry the WaterSense and ENERGY STAR labels are certified by the U.
