BROOKSVILLE – The authority that has overseen water resources for Hernando and surrounding counties for decades may soon grow into a full-time agency to tackle the challenges of providing the precious resource to thirsty communities. Jack Sullivan, who has served as a contract director of the Withlacoochee Regional Water Supply Authority for 25 years, on Wednesday asked the authority's board to set up a local office and a permanent staff. By creating such a formal structure, he said, the authority can coordinate efforts to identify, plan and build regional water supply facilities. It also could lead to more money from the water management district and the state, Sullivan said. Schwarzenegger, Feinstein eye water bond
Forbes – Feb 22, 2008
‘We believe, and I think the governor agrees, the preferable route is a legislative solution,’ Feinstein, a Democrat, said in brief remarks to reporters outside Schwarzenegger’s office. ‘There has to be something bipartisan that comes out of this. ‘ The governor called a special session last year to reach a deal that would boost California’s water supply, but lawmakers failed to get it done. The two sides remain divided over how much money — if any — should go to build dams. Democrats prefer increased water conservation measures as way to meet the needs of California’s growing population, now at 37. Feinstein, a former San Francisco mayor, differs with many members of her own party in favoring additional water storage.

NWC asked to deal with illegal connections on Yallahs pipeline
Jamaica Observer – Feb 23, 2008
“We are aware that people have been connecting to our lines and using the water for irrigation but not necessarily connecting it to the potable system; that’s what’s new and that’s what we are looking into,” Barrett said. Medical officer of health Dr Herbert Elliott, speaking with the Observer, said the department has been experiencing difficulties with rural water supply systems over time. “We have been having problems over the years with rural water supplies. It is there that sometimes we find E Coli (bacteria) levels, which are higher than we would hope, and that the chlorination might be low. We have asked people living in those areas to purify or boil their water before drinking,” he said. Dr Elliott, however, said water quality was ‘very good’ in the case of Corporate Area. “Basically our biggest problem is with the rural water supply,” he said…

Dr Elliott, however, said water quality was ‘very good’ in the case of Corporate Area. “Basically our biggest problem is with the rural water supply,” he said. He said the NWC was ‘extremely co-operative’ in trying to address identified shortfalls, as since the 2006 report was submitted there have been improvements. “Of course, we wouldn’t allow it to continue. Each month we point out what is going on so if you look at subsequent months of the reports you will see improvement,” he said. Talk Back
