By law, the water plan has to be passed within the first 20 days of the General Assembly. Jamieson said the plan must include protections for counties like Stephens that have a good water supply. “We do not need to have a plan in Georgia where one area can just arbitrarily draw water from another area’s river basin, for example the Chattahoochee draw water from the Savannah River Basin which is our river basin,” she said. Jamieson points to the current water crisis in Atlanta, saying lack of infrastructure maintenance is partially responsible for the crisis. “Every community in this state has an obligation to maintain a healthy infrastructure,” she said.
