UPPCB has sent showcause notices to Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI), Gandhi Memorial Hospital of Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj Medical University (CSMMU) and Balrampur Hospital for inappropriate disposal of bio-medical waste. The notices come with a warning that if these hospitals fail to comply with the orders within 15 days, their electricity and water supply will be disconnected.

The Maui Department of Water Supply plans to reduce Central Maui’s daily water demand to 25 million gallons a day from 28. The board will reconvene next month to see whether further action is needed to reduce water consumption. Customers are advised to check for leaks and cut back watering schedules by a day or two to meet the 10 percent reduction. The department gives out low-water flow fixtures, which will be available today at the Maui Nui Botanical Gardens plant sale from 9 a.

The supply to the NTPC’s Ramagundam thermal power station will also be hit. The plight of the farmers in Telangana is partly attributed to the numerous projects already taken up or completed by Maharashtra on the Godavari upstream of SRSP.
