The aim of this plan is to ensure better management of our water resources and equitable water distribution,” Chairman, Maharashtra Water Resources Regulatory Authority (MWRRA) A M Nimbalkar told PTI. “We expect this will ensure better regulation of water supply by channelising it where the shortage is acute,” Nimbalkar said. First of its kind for the country, the plan provides for basin-wise data collection. The state has five river basins Krishna, Godavari, Narmada, Tapi and Konkan, controlled by respective river basin agencies. “For every river basin we will involve all the stake holders – including the industry, farmers, households amongst others. We will take into account their future requirements of water, availability of water,” Nimbalkar said.

KARACHI: Power cuts hit water supply
Pakistan Dawn – Jun 25, 2007
As a result, the untreated water being disposed of into the sea increased from 310mgd to 350mgd in the last two days. In the absence of power supply at major pumping stations, several areas went without water or received scant supply of water on Sunday. The water board officials responsible for water distribution used the method of gravity in the absence of power to supply water, but a number of localities got water with reduced pressure and that too for a shorter duration. KWSB Chief Engineer (Electrical and Mechanical) Gulzar Memon told Dawn that except Dhabeji and Pipri all pumping stations including Hub PS, COD PS, NEK PS, K-II PS, K-III PS, Gharo PS, LSR (Low Service Reservoir) PS and Dhabeji inter-connection PS, North Naimabads Sakhi Hassan PS and Banaras Chowk PS suffered power outages since Saturday 4. However, power supply to the Hub station was restored at 1. 25am on Sunday and to COD at 1.

Water supply suspended for two days in Tiruchi
Hindu – Jun 25, 2007
Ganesan TIRUCHI: There has been a major breakdown in the city’s drinking water supply network owing to a burst in distribution mains running across the Uyyakondan River near Cantonment. Large parts of the city will go without water supply on Monday and Tuesday. The pipeline, carrying almost half of the city’s water supply, was damaged on Sunday while erecting piles on the river bed for widening the Chettipalam (bridge) across the river. The distribution main carries about 40 million litres a day (MLD) from Kambarasampettai collector well, out of the city’s total supply of 89 MLD. Pumping of water to about 20 overhead tanks in various parts of the city, including those at Thillai Nagar, Anna Nagar, Cantonment, Junction, Karumandapam and Khajapettai, has been hit. Consequently, residents in Thillai Nagar, Puthur, Vayalur Road, Shanmuga Nagar, Uyyakondan Thirumalai, Kumaran Nagar, Srinivasa Nagar, Ramalinga Nagar, Ramalinga Nagar South, Thennur, Anna Nagar, Andakondan, Bheema Nagar, Cantonment, Junction, Khajapettai, Palakkarai, Eda Street, Karumandapam, Ponnagar, Periamilaguparai, Chinnamilaguparai, Mudaliar Chathram and Sethuraman Pillai Colony would not get water supply on Monday and Tuesday.

Ganesan To be executed under Tamil Nadu Urban Development Fund TIRUCHI: The proposed Rs. 90-crore drinking water supply augmentation scheme, which seeks to provide equitable supply of all parts of the city, is likely to be executed under the Tamil Nadu Urban Development Fund (TNUDF). Currently, the Corporation supplies about 80 to 90 MLD from its drinking water pumping stations on the Cauvery bed. However, residents in several newly added colonies get inadequate supply, especially during the summer, due to the limitations of the present distribution network. The Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage (TWAD) Board has already drawn up the project proposal for the new scheme, which envisages tapping of about 93. 26 million litres a day (MLD) from the Coleroon bed at the ultimate stage by 2036. This would be in addition to the current supply of 80 to 90 MLD. The TWAD has assured the Corporation that the yield from the source of a new drinking water supply scheme would be dependable even during lean seasons. The new drinking water scheme will have three collector wells on the Coleroon bed.
