Over the last 15 years we have enhanced water conservation, increased use of reclaimed water, developed alternative water supplies, and created additional storage capacity. For instance, the Tampa Bay region’s water resources would be in far worse shape if not for Tampa Bay Water’s development of the 15 billion-gallon C. “Bill” Young Reservoir. Water scarcity hits town panchayats
Hindu – Apr 28, 2007
Sugumar, president of Thorappadi town panchayat, said that out of the five infiltration wells, three had already gone dry, and the water supply obtained from the remaining two wells had to be divided between the two town panchayats. Therefore, the frequency of water supply has been reduced. The six-lakh-litre overhead tank (OHT) at the Thorappadi town panchayat could be filled only once in four days, and this water had to be supplied to all the areas by turns. With the result, the panchayat was able to supply water to each area only once in seven to 10 days.
