A complainant from Islam Nagar, Block 4-D, Orangi Town said that water was supplied to the area twice a month, causing people great problems. He said that there was no schedule for supply of water to the area, adding that uncertainty about water supply was now a permanent problem for residents. He said that the problem has persisted for the last one year and KWSB officials in Orangi Town were aware of the water shortage, saying that applications were submitted to the officials concerned, yet no interest has so far been taken to solve the problem. The XEN of KWSB at Orangi Town, when contacted, said that water was supplied to the area through gravity system with a gap of three to six days. If supply was delayed for 15 to 18 days, it would be very rare and as a result of some serious problem in the supply system. When asked about the excessive wastage of water in different sectors of Orangi Town, the XEN said that work for repair of leakages was in progress, adding that Rs7 million were allocated by the town administration for maintenance of supply lines.
Steps taken to mitigate drinking water problem

Manjunath Prasad told presspersons here on Thursday that last month the zilla panchayat had sanctioned a plan for Rs. 13 crore to augment drinking water supply in villages in the district. He said funds had been released to 164 gram panchayats to take steps to augment drinking water supply. Work on several water supply schemes were in progress since February. He said funds had been reserved exclusively to maintain drinking water supply through tankers to affected villages. At present, water was being provided through tankers to 15 villages in the district, including 13 villages in Lingsugur taluk and two in Deodurga taluk, he said.
