Shankar announced in a public meeting at Panchanahalli in Kadur taluk of Chikmagalur district that a comprehensive drinking water supply scheme would be prepared. Work on Kerala water supply project to begin

Achuthanandan will inaugurate the Project on Tuesday. The project will benefit five districts. Minister for Water Resources N. Premachandran and Minister for Law M. Premachandran claimed that the Project would benefit 41 lakh people. It would be the biggest water supply project to be taken up in the State. He said the State would have to pay 1. 5 per cent as interest on the loan in Japanese Yen. The interest risk would have to be borne by the Government. The repayment would start after ten years.
Inland agencies get money to boost water supply

Regional water officials said Friday the grants will go to agencies that serve residents in San Bernardino Valley, western Riverside County, the Yucaipa Valley and northern Orange County. They are all part of the same watershed that drains into the Santa Ana River, which flows from the San Bernardino Mountains to the Pacific Ocean. The competitive grants from the voter-approved Prop. 50 in 2002 went to just that — projects that aim to solve regional problems such as the removal of high salts that will increase the supply of usable water, said Celeste Cantú, general manager of the Santa Ana Watershed Project Authority.
Summer raises questions on water supply

In Kerala, providing water to the population in cities has become a grave problem. In the case of Kochi, it has been a perennial problem without an immediate solution. Fresh water connections have been denied to the residents of a panchayat situated close to the city for many years together. One of the landmarks of Kerala, the Bharathapuzha has become dry in the summer at several places.
