The panel, made up of experts in climate, water resources, engineering and geography, urged the states to launch an in-depth study of water supply and demand so they have a plan in place before a crisis occurs. Water supply was expected to be restored last night, but it would take time for the flow to fully return to normal, said an Electricity and Water Ministry spokesman. The problem was caused by a major fault in an underground pipe and engineers were working round the clock yesterday to rectify the fault, he said. “It took more than a day to identify the actual problem,” said the spokesman. “Investigations finally revealed that the fault was with a valve of a major underground pipe.
