Mumbai water supply may resume ahead of schedule

The water supplywas cut off for 24 hours from 10 am on Wednesday for repairs and connectingalready laid pipelines to a filtration plant. Mumbaikars were gearedup for the water cut due to advance intimation from the Municipal Corporation ofGreater Mumbai (MCGM). Many office-goers preferred to eat outside and somehousewives avoided washing clothes. Hospitals conducted only emergencyoperations. Chief hydraulic engineer Deepak Kajbaje said repair workwill be completed by 8 pm on Wednesday and water supply will be restored bymidnight â almost 10 hours before schedule.

People in Blair Atholl and Bridge of Tilt have had their supply from Network Rail, or its equivalent, since 1911, because of a historical quirk. However, more than 200 homes should now enjoy the same quality and water pressure as most of the country. 2m improvement project was carried out by Scottish Water.

Authorities have not ruled out the possibility the dam would reach its “extreme minimum operating level” of 13 per cent later next year, the report said.
