The thickly populated areas remain neglected as main nullah and drains are found over flowing with heaps of garbage lying at main roads and water supply lines broken at various places compelling the citizens to use unhygienic water mixed with sewerage water. A resident of Soomro colony UC-1, Aftab Ahmed Soomro told this correspondent that nullahs of Shah Latif colony, Azizabad, Soomro colony, Shahbaz colony, Pir Bux Colony, and DC colony were choked with its water gushing on main roads. He complained that owing to failure of drainage system, people were contracting diseases such as malaria and gastroenteritis. Residents of Gharibabad, Nadeem Ahmed Ghallo and Zulfiqar Khokhar complained that knee-deep sewerage water was running on different roads in the area.

Stalin, Minister for Local Administration, here on Sunday. Inaugurating the first phase of the water scheme implemented at a cost of Rs. 68 crore, which would supply water to Virudhunagar and Aruppukkottai municipalities besides Kariapatti and Mallanginar town panchayats, he said the scheme would increase the supply of water from 42 lpcd (litres per capita per day) in Virudhunagar Municipality and 49 lpcd in Aruppukkottai Municipality to 90 lpcd. It would also ensure supply of 70 lpcd in town panchayats and 40 lpcd in panchayats, he added. Review meetings at the district headquarters helped to understand the needs of the people, Mr. Stalin said and added that he had visited all districts except Dharmapuri and Nilgiris.
