120 billion on water supply, sanitation projects in 5 years: PM. –> COPYRIGHT 2006 Asia Pulse Pty Ltd ISLAMABAD, September 20 (PPI): Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz Tuesday said the government has started various programmes to address sanitation problems in the cities, towns and rural areas and has allocated Rs. 120 billion for implementing water supply and sanitation projects during 2005-10. Addressing the inaugural session of two-day Second South Asian Conference on Sanitation (SACOSAN-2) here at a local hotel, the Prime Minister said the government’s strategy was focused on promoting public- private partnership to improve the standard of life of the people particularly living in rural areas. The Prime Minister said South Asia needs peace, stability, growth and development, which could be ensured through joint and coordinated efforts by the member.

The water board commissioned a demand-supply study in the Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad limits by Mumbai-based Tata Consulting Engineers and as per the projections, seven reservoirs of 50. 5 Mld capacity north of Musi and six of 49. 50 Mld south of the river Musi were required to meet the demands by the year 2011. The new reservoirs would come up at Patigadda, Chilkalguda, Narayanguda, Asifnagar, Allabanda, Shaikpet, New Thattikhana, Asmangadh, Vaishalinagar, DRDO township, Barkas, Maisaram and Miralam Tank. “By constructing these reservoirs, we may be able to ensure daily water supply too.
