Residents demand piped water supply

Residents of Halls Lane said that they were not provided with street supply as in the other streets. A few houses got a small quantity of water in their sumps. But, it was insufficient. A resident said that new pipes were laid from Bashyam Park to Avadi road recently.

Akthar said the city corporations had been given the power to fix water rates in the areas covered by the project. He said the project managers would take into consideration the paying capacity and economic background of the residents of a particular area for fixing the water rates. In order to augment the bulk water supply from the Bhima and the Bennethora rivers, the main pipelines from these two sources were being strengthened and a new pipeline was being laid from the Bhima at the Saradgi barrage to the filter bed.

The company contracted by the water authorities to do the job China Aneng Construction Corporation (CACC) told The Guardian yesterday it expects to accomplish the installation of new water pipes in Dar es Salaam Region by next February. The installation is five major supply points in the city, according to the CACC Site Engineers Zhao Guan Song. ”Installation of new water pipes would involve areas like Kurasini, Makongo, Morocco and Tegeta,” he said and obviously, along Sam Nujoma Road, where this paper caught up with him.
