The provincial housing department has convened a meeting of DCO, the district nazim and Wasa managing-director in Lahore on Monday (tomorrow) to prepare a summary to be forwarded to the chief minister for approval in this regard. Sources said citizens were protesting against Wasa for not supplying clean drinking water, blaming the agency for outbreak of hepatitis and gastroenteritis. They said Wasa managing-director Muhammad Bashir Tarar had sent a memorandum to the Punjab government requesting to provide a grant of Rs760 million for replacing the old water supply lines. According to the prosecution, Tausif had kidnapped Zaigam Ali and Muazzam Ali from Kamoki and demanded ransom worth Rs200,000 for their release. Later, he had killed them. Misuse of drinking water for irrigation detected

Jawahar has detected the misuse of drinking water supply for irrigation purpose and has taken action against 46 persons in Vedaranyam block in the district. Complaints Official sources said here that the Collector during his mass contact programme at Vedaranyam last week received complaints that a number of villages in the tail-end area were not getting drinking water supply through the Kollidam-Vedaranyam comprehensive water supply scheme. The villagers informed the Collector that the drinking water was being misused for irrigation purposes by several villages in Vedaranyam block. Immediately the Collector formed a special flying squad consisting of TWAD Board, revenue, block development and panchayat officials in Vedaranyam area and asked for undertaking surprise checks and plug the loopholes.
